The Human Touch

Are you worried about Artificial Intelligence?

For me, the advent of AI is having a positive impact for artists.

I was recently asked by Jakki Brown at Progressive Greetings to write about how social and political events impact aesthetics and to predict three design trends for the coming year and beyond. It's always interesting to see how the world impacts on our visual world. There are multiple factors at play. In thinking about trends, it’s at the forefront of my mind to consider how the concerns and conversations around AI is informing design choices. It's all about the human touch.

I believe the biggest driver of aesthetic tastes in the coming year will be an increased interest in intentional artwork which displays a human touch. One of the valuable outcomes of AI is the clearer distinction it supports us to seek. The wide-reaching and fast-moving impact of AI is shining an ever brighter light on the key debate around what we do and the value of what, and how, we create.

I am increasingly considering the layers within the creation of art and the valuable driver of individual intent.

The good news? I am seeing how the personal touch of the human hand will be increasingly valued. Our Clients’ contracts are frequently now asking us to confirm that the artwork we make has not been created using an AI programme.

It’s good news for artists.
