New Artist! Anna Stead

Anna Stead

Today is an exciting day! I’m thrilled to introduce you to our newest artist – the hugely talented Anna Stead.

Anna works from her home studio in the beautiful North Cotswolds in the UK. With a background in medieval studies, Anna is a lover of fantasy literature. She draws inspiration from nature, legend, history, folklore, literature, folk art and the mythic arts.

I love Anna’s individual point of reference – it brings a unique atmosphere and quality to her artwork.

Anna writes:

“[I studied] Medieval English and History at undergraduate and Medieval Studies post graduate. I love to use this learning in my work… I loved drawing from a very young age as a means of expression. I was discouraged at school from continuing my art education, which made me lose some of my creativity, but as an adult I rediscovered my love of drawing.”

What attracted you to work with Jehane?

“Jehane was the most engaged and passionate agent I had seen on Instagram by far, and it really drew me in to her content. She was championing Folktale Week, which is an art challenge I really enjoy, and I felt that really aligned with my own artistic visions. I loved seeing how more niche themes can be added into a commercial portfolio.”

How would you describe your own work?

“I find this really hard to do! I suppose in my mind, it is as if I have put all my favourite creative inspirations in a blender. To an outsider, it is definitely on the whimsical side.”

Who would be your dream dinner party guests? 

“Gandalf, Kenny Omega, Anne Boleyn, Tori Amos, Jonathan Strange”

If you were an animal, what would you be?

“I would like to say something majestic, like an owl, but realistically I would probably be something like an earthworm!”

One word comes to mind when I look at Anna's work.

Illuminating.

Anna Stead brings a quality of iridescence and detail which illuminates her subjects. It encapsulates the true wonder of nature and helps us to see with fresh eyes.
