New Artist - Ewa Rosa

Ewa Rosa

We are welcoming our NEW artist Ewa Rosa!

Ewa Rosa is a Polish illustrator in love with all things nature. She’s passionate about creating whimsical scenes full of magic and celestial motifs, and she draws inspiration from the ocean, plant life, cosmos, and Japanese woodblock prints.

She likes to incorporate exquisite details and intricate patterns into her drawings, especially dots symbolising stardust and the interconnectedness of all the living things. Her work is lush, decorative, dreamy, and full of opulent, golden accents.

“I believe that everything in the Universe is connected. That’s why, in my art, I like to filter nature through the lens of the magical, whimsical, and surreal, and I do not shy away from putting the moon at the bottom of the ocean or a jellyfish in the sky. Galaxy swirl mirrors the pattern of a shell. We are all starstuff.”

It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome Ewa to the family!

How did you find your style?

“By analyzing works of my favourite artists to understand why I’m drawn to them so much, and establishing what kinds of motifs, colors, textures, and patterns I’d love to incorporate into my own art. And then by drawing A LOT – there’s no way around it, if you want to discover things that are hidden inside you and make you unique.”

How would you describe your own work?

“My art is lush, opulent, intricate, decorative, dreamy, and glowing with magic and mystery. It’s also heart-driven, and I love the calming effect it has on others. People often say my illustrations are serene and soothing, and it truly makes my heart sing when I hear that someone’s day got a little better thanks to my work.”

What is your favourite piece of work in your portfolio & why?

“Creatures of the North ex aequo with Festive Galaxy. I’ve created both of these pieces for Jehane’s “Twelve Days of Christmas” challenge in 2024, and for me, they symbolize the moment when I felt my work really entered a professional level. In Creatures, I found the courage to use a new, bolder color palette, and Galaxy perfectly encapsulates my love for all things celestial and magical.”

Where and what did you study?

“I studied Czech language and literature at the University of Warsaw, specializing in postmodernism. Then I went on to become an English-to-Polish literary translator. In other words, my path to becoming a professional illustrator was VERY winding!”

What made you want to become an artist?

“Probably watching my mom, who was always painting something or making crafts. It was very inspiring to me, and as a kid, I often spent my mornings sitting next to her, learning how to draw. I was also an avid reader, devouring books, marveling at the illustrations, and dreaming of becoming an illustrator myself when I grow up.”
