It’s my pleasure to introduce our latest artist - Scotland-based Mandy J Tait.
Mandy J Tait is an illustrator originally from the Shetland Islands and now based in rural Aberdeenshire. Her work celebrates pattern, texture and storytelling, often drawing inspiration from nature, everyday observations and her background in traditional printmaking.

After studying art as a mature student, Mandy spent several years producing hand-printed work for galleries and trade shows before turning her attention towards illustration and surface pattern design. Her practice now combines the tactile qualities of printmaking with digital techniques, creating imagery that is bold, stylised and rich in texture.

“Ive always been fascinated by the simple magic of creating something that wasn’t there before. An idea that starts in your head gradually becoming a real image. It sounds simple but it gets me every time.”
Tell us about you - what makes you tick?
“I love the outdoors. The Shetland landscape is so breathtaking and I do miss it. The scenery in Aberdeenshire is also beautiful and we have so many castles here. In fact Disney was inspired by one of them. And believe it or not I have the ruins of a castle very near my house.”

How did you find your style?
“It happened quite organically. I began by creating hand-printed work such as wall art, cards and textiles using processes like linocut, collagraph and Gocco. When I started adapting those prints for different products, I realised I needed to simplify the imagery so that it could reproduce clearly.”
