GEMIMA JO

Gemma Hodgson is also known as Gemima Jo - a childhood nickname inspired by Jemima Puddle-Duck.

Gemma is a UK based artist with a background in textile design. Pattern, balance and decorative structure are central to her approach. She’s drawn to nature, symbolism and mystical subjects.

Through design-led storytelling, Gemma explore themes of resilience, connection and wonder … sprinkled with a touch of nostalgia!

Gemma’s creative process begins with brainstorming, creating mood boards and colour palettes. Then she sketches using an ipad or paper.

With a BA (Hons) in Textiles & Surface Pattern, she has always loved the work of Alphonse Mucha and is deeply inspired by folk art and childhood memory. Her dad is the reason she became an artist.

Gemma predominantly uses Procreate and Photoshop to create her illustrations while maintaining her analogue hand. Clients include River Island, Waitrose, Anthropologie, Gibsons, Flame Tree Publishing, and Parisian fashion house Olympia Le Tan.

Q & A

What would your dream project be?

“A project where design, narrative, and meaning come together in a cohesive, lasting way. A beautifully crafted book where I could fully immerse myself in building a visual world. Something timeless, tactile, thoughtful with pattern woven throughout.”

Any fun fact about you?

“A selection of my crochet and handmade clothing was chosen to be part of a fashion show at Electric Brixton as part of an Eras themed show. It was a great moment seeing pieces I’d made from second hand and vintage materials showcased on a runway!”

“I am really drawn to Jehane’s commitment to human-led creativity and the depth of thought behind her philosophy. In a world that can sometimes feel fast and surface level, her dedication to thoughtful, considered creativity really stands out to me. A place where storytelling, integrity, and artistry are genuinely valued”.
