CATHERINE ROWE

Catherine Rowe is a British designer whose work embodies luxury. Inspired largely by her love of nature and wildlife, Catherine Rowe’s illustrations marry tradition with contemporary style.

The backstory to Catherine’s technique is highly unusual. For many year all of her drawings were created by hand using the technique of scraperboard inspired by Victorian etchings.

Catherine now works digitally in Pro-create whilst ensuring to maintain the delicate touch of her analogue drawings.

Catherine trained as an Illustrator at Cambridge School of Art. With an impressive client list, she won the Open Call for a new iconic Liberty fabric in 2018. Her winning design ‘Palace Gardens’ was launched in 2019 and her career has flourished ever since.

Clients include Museums & Galleries, Hachette, Chicken House Books, Michael O’Mara, Anthropologie, Bothy Threads, Fable England, Nautilus Puzzles, and Liberty Fabrics.

Catherine Rowe is available to commission.

What do you love about using scraperboard as the inspiration of your technique?

“I love scraper board because it mimics the effects of engraving without the lengthy process of equipment. It gives a unique result when combined with digital colouring. I was immediately hooked!”
